You did take note of my long o in the word on
the hint of a drawl that matched my pearly buttons
and might have led another to divine a half
continent of nineteenth-century opini-
onation behind them
not you
the weather-worn
sunny grin did not distract you from my lack of
bolo tie or my hand’s unhardened feel under
the tan or what my lowboy red sedan implied
you did take one more margarita even though
you had never met a metacowboy had you
